Some special things about this playground: There’s a sandbox for little ones and some tricky ropes and climbing stuff for the older kids. Plus, when you park, you can see the Vice President’s house nearby, which is very neat.
One downside is that there are no public bathrooms available. However, there are also some great restaurants and a Trader Joe’s nearby. This playground even has a splash pad, and free parking is available, too.
Chevy Chase Rec Center
This park is very fun and offers many unique features, like a toy playground! This playground is fully equipped with bikes, trikes, play kitchens, and plenty of other toys for little ones to play with.
This playground is very big, with lots to do, including a super fun splash pad. This park has nice public bathrooms and offers ample on-street parking. The park itself is wheelchair and stroller accessible, but the play structures are unfortunately not wheelchair-friendly.
Beauvoir Playground
This playground at the National Cathedral Elementary School is a unique and impressive spot. It’s inspired by nature, offers challenging play areas, and is quite spacious with terraced sections.
This unique playground has a real European feel to it. The playground also has some challenging parts, including a speedy slide that older children will enjoy. There are entertaining areas for younger children to enjoy as well.
The imaginative play areas with caves and rocks, the stone gargoyle for pretend skiing, and the zip line are so much fun! This park is only open on weekends, and there are no restrooms on-site. However, the park offers ample parking right next to the playground and nearby street parking.
Harry Thomas Sr. Playspace
This park in D.C. is genuinely one of a kind, and you won’t find anything like it anywhere else in the country! The Harry Thomas Sr. Playspace has a unique design inspired by a mathematical concept called the Fibonacci Sequence, which is all about adding two numbers before getting the next one.
They’ve used something called the “Golden Ratio” in the park’s design. The outcome is a playground that looks unlike any other, and it’s packed with all the equipment kids love: things to climb, floating steps, swings, slides, and even a rock wall. It’s a unique and exciting playground experience!
Palisades Rec Center

Lafayette-Pointer Park Playground
Lafayette-Pointer Park Playground is where you’ll find one of the biggest playground structures in D.C., and it’s a dream come true for older kids. They affectionately call this colossal structure “The Elephant” because of how it looks, but it’s actually a gigantic climbing tower equipped with intricate web-like ropes that lead to an enormous gray tunnel slide.
For the younger ones, there’s a separate fenced-off section with smaller climbing spots, playhouses, and a sandy play area. And if all that isn’t exciting enough, there’s also a Spray Park nearby where everyone can cool off and have a blast!
Macomb Rec Center
This playground is a great spot because it’s not usually too crowded, and it offers separate areas for older and younger kids. Plus, lovely trees provide shade over the picnic area and a spacious baseball field, adding to the park’s charm and neighborhood feel.
What makes this playground unique are its tall slides for older kids, a merry-go-round, and swings for the little ones. Notably, these play areas are separated by fences. Additionally, there’s an intriguing “conveyor belt” feature that kids absolutely love!
Keep in mind that restroom facilities are available at the rec center, but they might not be open to the public just yet. Stead Park
This is a fantastic park to visit with your kids, especially if you’re downtown. It’s just six blocks north of the White House and offers a medium-sized playground, a basketball court, and a spacious soccer field.
What sets this park apart is its unique features: there are two different climbing walls for both little and big kids, in addition to a standard playground. It’s worth noting that some of the equipment might be a bit old, but there’s good news!
In 2023, a renovation project was finished for this park, which includes a 1.5-acre area and an old historic carriage house named after Mary Force Stead, serving as the main entrance building. This project brought about extra indoor recreational areas, better playgrounds and outdoor gathering spaces, and improved lighting.
Please be aware that parking is available only as metered street parking, and there are no public restrooms.
Kennedy Recreation Center
This playground is quite impressive. It’s a large, enclosed area with a fence, and it has a lot to offer, including multiple slides, obstacle courses, a separate space for toddlers to play, swings, and some shade in the afternoon to keep everyone comfortable.
A unique feature that sets this playground apart is an upside-down rainbow see-saw! Facilities are available inside the center if you need to use the restroom. However, it’s important to note that they are closed on Sundays.
For parking, you have a couple of options. You can walk from the DC Alley Museum, or there’s a small parking lot at the Rec Center off P St.
The Fields At RFK Stadium
This lovely park is situated near the soccer fields by the Anacostia River. What’s really convenient is that the toddler play area is separated from the bigger kids’ area, making it perfect for families with kids of different ages.
This playground has some unique features that will catch your attention. There’s an Orb Merry-Go-Round that will surely be a hit, and you’ll love the surfboard rider play component. Additionally, there are numerous climbing structures and hills to explore.

Navy Yard Green Space

Remember to bring a change of clothes if your little ones love getting wet. There is no slide or swings here so its really best for families with young toddlers who are just learning to walk.
The Yards Park
The Yards Park has lots of open spaces to run around. There is not a traditional playground here but plenty of play spaces where your kids can run around. There is also a large water feature where kids are often able to splash around. This place is great for adults too as there are different areas with restaurants and views of the water.
Pocket Park And Playground
The Pocket Park & Playground is for children around 4 years or older. This is because the park is not fenced in so you will want to make sure that your children know not to leave the playground. It is a small playground in proximity to the DC Armory. It’s one of the smaller playgrounds in the area so is better if you are local to this area.
The Only Downside
While these playgrounds offer an abundance of fun for kids of all ages, there is one common downside shared by many of them: limited parking space. The Wizard Of Oz-Themed Playground In Maryland
One of the most popular Wizard of Oz-themed playgrounds is in Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This playground has a yellow brick road, a rainbow arch, and several play structures designed to look like characters and scenes from the classic movie.

Clemyjontri Park is located in the town of McLean in Northern Virginia. It is a 2-acre park specifically designed for children of all abilities to play side-by-side. The park has a two-acre playground with many slides, swings and has a turf ground which is great for smaller kids who may fall frequently. The park even has a carousel, where children who use wheelchairs, walkers, or braces, or who have sensory or developmental disabilities can enjoy a complete and active play experience.
The park also has a picnic pavilion, a picnic area, and ample parking. The parking lot can get full quickly on weekends. In this case, there is additional parking in a side lot located across the street that is a short walk from the playground.
Glen Echo Park, Maryland
